An Apple a Day!

I personally think that apples are delicious. Any fresh apples make a healthy snack! Baking apples are tasty in desserts! Tart apples are perfect for savory dishes, such as Thanksgiving stuffing.

Take advantage of seasonal ingredients!

Apples, oranges and pomegranates are abundant and in season this time of the year. I incorporate them into as recipes or simply enjoy eating them as much as possible during this time.

Servings: 6 Servings

Ingredients

  • 1 granny smith apple
  • 1 ginger gold apple
  • 1 macintosh apple

  • 1 pomegranate
  • 1 large cinnamon stick
  • 3 cups apple cider
  • 1 cup apple brandy
  • 750 ml sparkling wine
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  • Slice the orange in thin quarters and set aside. Slice pomegranate open and remove all the seeds.
  • In a large glass pitcher, add half of the diced apples, all of the orange quarters, 3/4 of the pomegranate seeds, cinnamon stick. apple cider and apple brandy. Stir to combine and chill for 30 minutes.
  • After 30 minutes, fill 6 (12 oz) glasses with ice. To finish the sangria, pour in the full bottle of sparkling wine. Gently stir. Pour sangria into glasses. Garnish with reserved pomegranate seeds. Enjoy! Snack on extra apple sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar.

Notes

To prepare a mock version of this tasty fall sangria, eliminate the apple brandy and the sparkling wine. Substitute apple brandy with 1 cup apple juice and sparkling wine with 750 ml of sparkling white grape juice.
