Food Blog La Piña en la Cocina Launch January 2014. Recipes featured on this site are dishes learned from my family, original recipes developed by me, Sonia Mendez Garcia,  and also recipes inspired and adapted from learning new cooking methods and techniques.

Cooking for family and friends came easy to me, but the moment I was asked to cook for the public, I almost forgot everything I knew, lol! One of the turning points was when I was asked to teach Mexican cooking classes at our local kitchen store back in 2007. It really helped me develop my people skills and opened me up to a whole new world of Mexican cooking, authentic Mexican cooking.

In 2012, I joined the Hispanic Kitchen site where I could freely share my love for cooking and also share the wonderful family recipes that I grew up loving. It also allowed me to be creative is preparing new dishes and exploring new flavor combinations as well. By the end of 2012, I was asked to join the Hispanic Kitchen in a more permanent way by becoming the resident chef on site.

Because of my work on Hispanic Kitchen, at the end of 2012,  I was asked to become a Contributor and Colaboradora at Que Rica Vida/ General Mills. It was like a dream come true! The staff has been nothing but nice and extremely helpful. My Mom’s recipe for Caldo de Res was featured in the special  2013 Mothers Day issue of Que Rica Vida.  And for the month of September 2013  two of my recipes, Pollo en Pipian and Guacamole Stuffed Queso Fundido,  were featured in the special Hispanic Heritage issue of Que Rica Vida.
